South Dakota State (I-Newswire) September 23, 2012 - Jonathan Thie, Head Coach of men’s tennis team at St. Thomas More (SD), is proud to announce the end of a successful tennis season. The team finished the 2012 season placing 12th at the South Dakota State Tournament.
“I’m really proud of my guys,” says Jonathan Thie, who became Head Coach for the men’s team after spending a year as the Assistant Coach for the women’s tennis team in 2011. “I know that each and every player on the team really pushed himself and challenged himself to be the best tennis player he could be. And, that’s what it’s all about.”
The St. Thomas More 2012 men’s team’s record is marked with wins and losses, but Coach Thie remarks, “It’s not the wins or the losses that are most important; it’s the quality of play – the improvement of skill. I’ve watched many players on this team go from having a mediocre backhand to a downright wicked backhand. That’s the improvement you want to see as a coach. That’s when you really know you’re doing your job.”
Though the position with St. Thomas More is Thie’s first Head Coach position at the high school level, Jonathan Thie has instructed students in tennis since 2009. Jonathan Thie earned his Professional Tennis Management degree in Tyler, Texas (2009-2010), and then began coaching and teaching children and middle school age students.
Jonathan Thie further improved himself as a tennis coach and instructor by receiving two forms of certification as a “Tennis Professional.” Thie is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) and the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA). He has held both certifications for two years. Additionally, Jonathan Thie is certified as a “Tennis Official” by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).Jonathan Thie is happy to be putting these certifications to use at St. Thomas More with the men’s team.
