As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting Canadian winter sport, JELD-WEN has signed on to sponsor long-track speedskater Tyler Derraugh.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (I-Newswire) January 31, 2011 - As part of their ongoing commitment to supporting Canadian winter sport, JELD-WEN has signed on to sponsor long-track speedskater Tyler Derraugh. The Winnipeg native made his World Cup debut in the 500-metre event in Moscow this weekend. By placing first in his division on Saturday, January 30, Derraugh qualified to compete in the World Cup final with the top 24 skaters. In the final, he posted the second fastest time by a Canadian in the 500 m, qualifying him for the top tier of the national team.

“I would just like to thank JELD-WEN for the gracious support,” Derraugh says. “It has allowed me to turn my focus completely on my skating and will help me be prepared for the World Cup Final and hopefully World Championships this coming March.”

The window and door manufacturer currently supports both hockey and curling partnerships from coast to coast. This is the first time the company has backed a Canadian speedskater.

Derraugh spent six years on the short track and transitioned to the international long-track circuit after suffering a concussion during the 2010 Olympic trials. This season, Derraugh has placed fourth at the Canadian Single Distance Championship, third at the Canada Cup and was a first alternate at the World Sprint.

“JELD-WEN is committed to supporting our Canadian athletes reach their Olympic goals,” says Chris Sheldon, director of marketing for JELD-WEN Canada. “We’re proud to help this rising star and congratulate him on his recent achievements in Moscow.”
