Jamaica Targets Investment At Major Outsourcing Summit

Kingston (I-Newswire) September 10, 2011 - Patrick Casserly, the recently appointed ambassador/special envoy with responsibility for information, communication and technology (ICT) in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, will lead a team from JAMPRO to the Gartner Outsourcing & Vendor Management Summit scheduled for Florida next week, as the government ramps up its efforts to secure investments in the country’s business process outsourcing (BPO) sector.

Following up on the August 4 announcement by Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister, in which he identified the expansion of the ICT/BPO sector as a top priority, this JAMPRO-organised mission will seek to generate investment and outsourcing business leads, while also providing exposure for Jamaican BPO solutions providers.

“It is our position as a Government, that the local ICT/BPO sector presents the greatest opportunity to create jobs in the shortest possible time; jobs which will in turn increase the multiplied effect in the economy,” stated Minister Tufton.

The JAMPRO representatives slated to join Casserly at the summit, which will take place at the Peabody Hotel in Orlando from September 12 to 14, are Claude Duncan, VP, Investment Promotion, Vivion Scully, manager, Knowledge Services, and Stacy Adams, manager, Investment Facilitation Services. Also accompanying the Jamaican contingent are representatives from two local outsourcing companies – Global Gateway Solutions and ADS Global.

Gartner, Inc., the company staging the summit, is the world's leading information technology research and advisory firm, with 1,250 research analysts and consultants and clients in 80 countries. The event is designed to provide an “in-depth exploration of the significant developments and trends shaping vendor and strategic sourcing management practices, as well as the sourcing marketplace”. Decision-makers at the level of chief information officer (CIO) are expected to attend the summit, which will offer over 100 sessions with independent analysis, critical frameworks, industry case studies, best practices and content for various experience levels.

JAMPRO will be facilitating Jamaica’s participation as a silver sponsor, which comes with a strong booth presence and branding/promotional opportunities. Over the course of the three-day event, the agency will be seeking to position Jamaica as the ideal nearshore location for contact centre/BPO operations, while simultaneously cultivating business links by taking part in sessions, keynote addresses, networking events and specially arranged one-on-one meetings.

Since 2008, Jamaica has consistently made Gartner’s list of up-and-coming nearshore hotspots for outsourcing. Jamaica’s participation in the upcoming summit comes on the heels of two other JAMPRO-organised ICT missions to Costa Rica Technology Insight, the region's most exclusive Digital Technology summit held in June, and the NASSCOM BPO Strategy Summit held in Delhi, India in August.
