It's Zoo-Nanimous - The Belize Zoo Is On Board

ISIS Belize Teams with the Belize Zoo for Animal Science Courses

The Belize Zoo, known as the best little zoo in the world, has graciously agreed to provide students the opportunity to get a true hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with their collection of exotic and beautiful animal, facilitated through ISIS Belize.
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center was started in 1983, as a last ditch effort to provide a home for a collection of wild animals which had been used in making documentary films about tropical forests. Shortly after the backyard "zoo" began, it was quickly realized that its Belizean visitors were unfamiliar with the different species of wildlife, which shared their country. This very aspect fomented the commitment to develop the little zoo into a dynamic wildlife education center.
Today, The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center is on 29 acres of tropical savanna and exhibits over 125 animals all native to Belize. The zoo keeps animals, which were orphaned, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as gifts from other zoological institutions.
Through ISIS Belize wildlife and animal science students will have the opportunity to spend time at the Belize Zoo working with the animals to get a hands-on experience of zoo life. Twenty-two students taking summer courses will explore the challenging role of zoos in the areas of conservation, education and tourism; and participate in the care, feeding, health and stimulation activities which form the everyday work of the zookeepers.
