ISSA LA Features Twenty Two Internet Security Experts Speaking on Cyber Crime at Third Annual Information Security Summit

Los Angeles, CA (I-Newswire) June 9, 2011 - Twenty-two of the country’s leading experts on Internet security will speak at the Los Angeles Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA-LA) third annual Information Security Summit. The theme of this year’s Summit is The Growing Cyber Threat: Protect Your Business. The Summit will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at 7:30 AM on the UCLA Campus at Covel Commons, Grand Horizon Ballroom and will be hosted by UCLA Extension.

“This is open season for hackers. There has been an explosive growth in cybercrime, just within the last two weeks,” said ISSA-LA President Stan Stahl, Ph.D. “Yesterday’s defenses don’t work against the worst of today’s cyber-attacks. The Summit’s mission is what businesses, nonprofits and other organizations must do to stay ahead of the cybercriminals.”

Twenty-three highly regarded experts will be speaking at the event on cyber security. The keynote speakers will be Marc Maiffret, Chief Technology Officer at eEye Digital Security, and Steve Lipner, Director of Security Assurance at Microsoft. A special keynote address will be given by Carl Terzian, chairman of Carl Terzian Associates, who will address practical privacy considerations when engaging in business and social networking on the Internet.

Mr. Maiffret is an industry expert in network security who has testified before the United States Congress on national cyber security and critical infrastructure protection. He has been interviewed on CNN International regarding Wikileaks and has been featured in Details, the Los Angeles Times, Entrepreneur Inc. and USA Today. Mr. Maiffret discovered the first Microsoft computer worm, “CodeRed” and was named one of People Magazine’s 30 People Under 30.

Mr. Lipner is senior director of Security Engineering Strategy at Microsoft Corp where leads Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle team. Mr. Lipner is co-author with Michael Howard of The Security Development Lifecycle, is an inventor and holds several patents, has authored numerous professional papers and served on several National Research Council committees. Mr. Lipner holds several degrees in Civil Engineering from MIT.
