AST Connections Ltd, (ASTC) is proud to announce that the new IT Applications Development Department, headed up by Andy Smith, AST Group Technical Manager has launched the first of many Apps designed to innovate the use of satellite communications.
The new Thuraya Top-Up App is the first of its kind, and allows users from all over the globe to purchase 20, 50 and 160 unit Prepaid airtime Thuraya vouchers easily and securely. All major credit cards are accepted and users receive their voucher immediately, both via the App itself, and by email.
The App is available to download from both the Google Play Store and Apple iTunes, and works with all Thuraya satellite handsets and the new innovative Thuraya SatSleeve.
Thuraya satellite phones provide satellite communications over the EMEA and Asia Pacific Regions, and the App allows users to easily top up their Prepaid SIM cards anywhere, anytime from their smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Gregory Darling, Managing Director of the AST Group said he is proud of his team who are the first to design an App, not only to service the satellite industry, but also one optimised for the low bandwidth available on satellite services. 'The addition of this App into our Value Added Services portfolio allows users who are in remote areas to top-up their satellite phone without having to visit a local provider, which is of real benefit to the customer.', he continued, 'AST is currently identifying other key areas where Apps can play invaluable roles in improving the customer experience, and this will be the first of many designed specifically for the satellite industry.'
ASTC has a long standing relationship with Thuraya, receiving their full support on the project. Bilal El Hamoui, Vice President of Commercial at Thuraya commented, 'We were impressed with how easy the app was to use, and are delighted that AST selected the Thuraya customer community to be the first to benefit from their App Development Programme'.
ASTC is part of the wider AST Group, a full service satellite solutions company and Tier 1 provider of all MSS airtime and hardware covering the 5 major continents.
