Alzheimer's author and 20-caregiver Frena Gray-Davidson will be talking about her new book "Alzheimer's 911" on Coping With Caregiving Internet Radio Show May 15.

(I-Newswire) May 11, 2010 - May 10, 2010 — Frena Gray-Davidson, author of the newly-released book, “ Alzheimer's 911”, will be interviewed on the popular “Coping with Caregiving” Internet radio program on Saturday, May 15th. Frena will share creative caregiving tips to help make your experience easier.

The program features four healthcare professionals and is broadcast live worldwide from 3-4:00 pm Pacific Time, with Gray-Davidson’s interview at 3:15 pm PT (6:15 pm ET), segment 2. Gray-Davidson fell accidentally into Alzheimer's caregiving when she arrived in the USA in 1986. She had the chance to live rent-free in return for helping a family care for Hannah, their 79-year-old mother afflicted with Alzheimer's. Like many people starting out in caregiving, she attended seminars and workshops, but was shocked at the negative and often unhelpful information being presented.

"I just couldn't imagine how already over-stressed family caregivers could face listening to such heart-wrenching seminars. Since I'd just lived and worked in Asia for 15 years, experiencing many different cultures, I decided to treat Alzheimer's as if it was a new country and Hannah as if she was from a new culture. That perspective allowed me to learn directly from someone with Alzheimer's, not from outsiders telling me about her."

That was the beginning of making sense of dementia, as far as Gray-Davidson was concerned. She became deeply involved with Alzheimer's caregiving and continued to learn from people with the disease. Her goal was to find ways to help people overcome the shock and loneliness of both having the disease and caring for a family member with it.

Four books later, Gray-Davidson’s newest book, "Alzheimer's 911: Help, Hope and Healing for Caregivers", concentrates on the inner journey of those on both sides of caregiving. It shows how people with dementia struggle towards peace and reconciliation and helps caregivers understand what they're hearing and seeing from those they care for—creating a map for connection between the two.

If you miss the live radio broadcast, by Tuesday May 18th, you can listen-on-demand to the archive anytime. For assistance with Internet radio, see www.wsRadio.com/how-to-listen.cfm.
