Ghaziabad (I-Newswire) August 9, 2012 - It’s difficult to decide whether Dr. Anita Matthew is more zealous as a learner or a teacher! She has spent 15 years in full-time classroom teaching and training, and now handles distance learning with aplomb. Mastering all skills required to deliver these programmes online, she proudly proclaims that she has acquired most of them as Associate Professor, HR at IMT CDL.
Dr. Anita Matthew holds a PGDPM from Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi (1991-93). She also holds a degree in Law from Rourkela Law College, Sambalpur University (1993-96) and a Doctorate in the area of Organisational Behaviour from Aligarh Muslim University. A certified NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) practitioner, Dr. Matthew is an internationally published researcher with industry experience in the domain of Human Resources. She has worked with organisations like DaRT (Dataline and Research Technologies), a Dalal Street Journal Group Company, New Delhi. Clearly, this gifted teacher has been a multi-talented student herself!
Dr. Matthew believes that students, especially alumni, are the most important resource that IMT CDL has. She feels, “We have tremendous potential and the students who come back to us are from the best backgrounds and some of the best private companies. They bring a huge amount of content, knowledge and experience. They can become mentors for new students.” An alumni-student mentoring programme would also ensure wider reach for the IMT CDL brand and work with a role model approach.
Dr. Matthew believes that the IMT CDL Director, A. M. Sherry, and his dedication to building distance learning programmes have been instrumental in creating a ‘thinking’ organisation, ably supported by infrastructure that allows student interaction when required. She also proposes residential interaction to be built into programmes, to enable deeper and impactful learning in shorter contact hours.
IMT CDL creates a complete learning experience for students, leveraging simulations, innovative hands-on assignments and case studies. Since generation Y is more used to being on Facebook than taking notes, they are happier in a virtual classroom where they engage on their own terms and the chats become reference notes. Although Dr. Matthew does express some concerns about student involvement, she is convinced with the efficacy of the application-based programmes.
A programme is as good as its students believe it is. Subscribing to that maxim, Dr. Matthew urges the students, “Continue appreciating us, continue suggesting how best we can meet your and industry’s changing needs, and keep working hard.”
