Bristol based production company recognised with Best Short Film and Best Community Media honours at the RTS West Awards

Bristol (I-Newswire) February 20, 2012 - Bristol based production company Hurricane Media last night took home two prestigious RTS West of England Awards for a documentary they produced looking at the See No Evil street art event in Bristol.

Hurricane picked up awards for Best Short Film and Best Community Media for short documentary; ‘Who’s Lenny?’ at the ceremony held in Central Bristol. The short film, produced in collaboration with Bristol City Council, looked at the transformation of Nelson Street, the event was the most ambitious permanent street art project ever to take place in the UK.

The See No Evil project, which took place in August 2011, saw 72 international artists converge on Bristol. Over 6 days, Nelson Streets buildings were transformed with more than 13,000 cans of spray paint. Both international and homegrown artists including Inkie, El Mac and Tats Cru, worked on the project. Countless pieces were skillfully crafted by the artists, with some of the paintings reaching as tall as ten storey’s high, forming a permanent feature of Bristol’s skyline.

Hurricane Media had exclusive access to the artists involved and used a range of innovative camera techniques to record the event. Time lapse photography captured the development of the artists pieces over three days. The most dramatic shots were captured by cameras moving along wires stretched 100 feet above the crowd.

Jon Mowat, MD, Hurricane Media, said “See No Evil was such a landmark moment in global street art that to capture it on film was a significant achievement”

“As a Bristol creative company we are surrounded by street art daily and we wanted to tell the important story of the growth of the art form and it’s significance to Bristol. To secure interviews with major players in the cities history, and to tell this story to a global audience is something of which we are extremely proud”

“’Who's Lenny’ was a thoroughly rewarding film to make, into which we put a great deal of care and effort. To have this work recognised by a organistation as prestigious as the RTS is a great achievement for the whole team”

Hairy Biker David Myer, who presented the award for Best Short Film, passed on judges comments that ‘Who’s Lenny?’ was “…a brilliantly inspirational record of a large scale community art event”

Hurricane joined other winners on the night including BDH For Wonders of the Universe, Aardman Digital and The BBC’s Frozen Planet.

‘See no Evil’ Organiser and Bristol’s place-making director Mike Bennett said “For a long time Bristol has been recognised as the UK’s street art capital. See No Evil and Hurricane’s film ‘Who’s Lenny?’ undoubtedly helped to cement that position internationally as well as bringing much needed recognition to the artists involved. It’s difficult to imagine that the event would have reached such a large audience without the support of Hurricane Media and it’s fantastic that their hard work has been recognised by The RTS”
