Huddersfield University Victorious In The Prince's Trust University Million Makers Challenge

A team of students from Huddersfield University have been named the national winners of this year’s Prince’s Trust University Million Makers enterprise challenge.

London (I-Newswire) April 13, 2011 - The University Million Makers challenge, supported by eFinancialCareers – the leading global career network for financial professionals – saw 17 teams of students from nine universities competing to raise money for the youth charity. Each team had to present a fully costed business plan to a panel of dragons, and put their entrepreneurial plans into action during the four month challenge, running their businesses to raise at least £2500.

The Huddersfield team raised a total of £5049 over the course of the challenge from October to January, by holding a series of events including “An Evening of Clairvoyance” with renowned Yorkshire spiritualist medium Sue Bell. Runner-up teams were from London South Bank University and Lancaster University, which both exceeded the £2500 target. Money raised will help disadvantaged young people into work, through The Prince’s Trust.

In total, competing teams raised £17,524 for The Prince’s Trust. The victorious Huddersfield students would not say whether the clairvoyant had predicted their victory.

Competing students were spurred on by the thought of getting a foot in the door with prestigious employers. Prizes on offer, arranged through eFinancialCareers, consist of short placements to take place this summer at some of the world’s best-known financial organisations including Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and Nomura, as well as at The Prince’s Trust.

James Bennett, Managing Director of eFinancialCareers for EMEA and APAC commented:

“The objective of University Million Makers is to develop business skills and nurture talent – and in so doing raise funds for disadvantaged young people through The Prince’s Trust. We congratulate the Huddersfield team on their excellent achievement.”
