Hotel Galvez To Host Spanish Wine Event During Food And Wine Festival

Galveston, Texas (I-Newswire) March 19, 2011 - As part of its ongoing monthly centennial celebrations, Hotel Galvez & Spa, A Wyndham Grand® Hotel, will host a Spanish Wine Pairing Dinner on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m. with visiting Chef Pedro Angel Garcia of Houston’s El Meson Restaurant. This special event is part of the 2011 Galveston Island Food and Wine Festival.

Priced at $100 per person plus tax and gratuity, the evening will begin with a Cava wine reception featuring the customary sparkling wine from the northern areas of Spain. The dinner offers eight tasting courses of traditional and contemporary Spanish fare paired with five imported Spanish red, white and sparkling wines. Chef Garcia will introduce each course and end the evening with a question-and-answer session.

Guests also will be entertained by a Spanish guitarist during the evening and a special exhibit of traditional costumes from various regions of Spain will be on display courtesy of the Spanish Consul General.

Chef Garcia was born in La Habana, Cuba, and grew up in New York City. His family established the El Meson Restaurant in Houston in 1981, specializing in Spanish and Cuban cuisine. Chef Garcia took over the family business in 1992 and began hosting regular wine dinners in 1997. He is a certified sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers and holds a diploma from the International Sommelier’s Guild as well as an advanced certification with the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
