Alzheimer's Foundation of America National Memory Screening Day is being supported in Boise, ID by Home Instead Senior Care by offering free memory screenings on Tuesday, November 16 and Wednesday, November 17, 2010.

Boise (I-Newswire) November 4, 2010 - According to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), November 16 is National Memory Screening Day.

To support this initiative, Home Instead Senior Care, awarded 2003 Small Business of the Year by the American Society on Aging (ASA), will be offering free memory screenings in Boise on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 and Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at 3023 E Copper Point Drive, Suite 111, Meridian, ID. The test takes 20-minutes and will be conducted by appointment between 9a and 5p.

“We don’t want any family left out, which is why we are offering this service free of charge. Having a memory screening will empower a family with knowledge, options, choices and support” said Elizabeth Britton, owner of Home Instead Senior Care.

Qualified healthcare professionals conduct the face-to-face screening, which includes a series of questions and tasks that test memory language skills, thinking ability, and other intellectual functions.

“This is a first step to memory problem detection in dementia and alzheimer’s care in Idaho” said Britton. According to the AFA, some memory problems can be treated by vitamins and/or thyroid treatments. Others might be caused by pre-alzheimer’s like dementia. Britton advocates, “Without a screening, early diagnosis is not possible”.

The test does not substitute for a professional diagnosis, but this screening can provide an indication if an individual should follow up with a primary care provider or other qualified healthcare professional.
