History of House Music

Online, October 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Since the mid 1980's Chicago has been known as the Birthplace of House Music, with it's unique blend of beats, DJ scratches, piano rifts and gospel-like vocals, local groups such as JM Silk (Steve "Silk" Hurley and Keith Nunnelly), Hip House icons White Knight and Fast Eddie, along with now legendary DJ/Producer/Mixers like Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Knuckles "The Godfather of House Music", Julian "Jumpin" Perez, and The Chosen Few DJ's and others set the tone for a sound that has resonated and influenced pop music for more than 25 years. On Saturday, October 13th, 2012, at the Chicago's Historic Congress Theater, the House Nation will reunite at the History of House Music Concert. It will be a historic reunion, as the DJ best known as the Godfather of House Music, Frankie Knuckles returns to the city where House Music got it's name. Back "in the day", there was a Chicago nightclub called the Warehouse, and Frankie Knuckles was the resident DJ, who mixed old disco classics, some euro-beats, and his own invented drumbeats and sounds to create a sound that not only moved the crowds of over 25 years ago, but created a sound that defined a generation of music, and resulted in many top 40 pop acts to seek out Chicago based djs and producers to lend their unique sounds to their chart topping Billboard hits. Many of the Chicago based acts, who started on small independent Chicago record labels, where soon recruited and signed with major record labels of the day, including RCA, Jive and Warner Brothers. Even more of the eras DJs, soon found regular airplay on major radio mixshows, and some even became major radio personalities on their own radio shows. In short, Chicago was leaving a major musical imprint on not only the national music scene, but also the musical stages around the world, as teen DJs like Bad Boy Bill became world travelers who have played arena shows and major events not only in the states, but in Europe and all ports in between.

This year's History of House Music Concert, will not only reunite the many personalities previously mentioned, but it will also serve as a reunion for all fans of House Music, who grew up listening to the sounds of Frankie Knuckles "The Godfather of House Music" Bad "Boy" Bill, The Chosen Few DJs (Wayne Williams, Mike Dunn, Andre Hatchett, Terry Hunter and Alan King), and those who followed as the Hot Mix Five (Kenny Jammin Jason, Julian Jumpin Perez) made their way on journeys through a variety of hit music radio stations, including the Legendary WBMX and WGCI.

The History of House Music Concert this year will also be the home of a rather unique homecoming, that of Bad Boy Bill, who started as a teenage turntable sensation and has become on of the best known and respected DJ/Producer/Live mix performer that Chicago has developed. Bad Boy Bill will go back to his roots by performing a rare set of Old School Classics, the type that helped put him and Chicago on the world's map of House Music history.
