Hinduja Hospital Conferred With Tb Champion Award

The award comes in wake of the awareness generated by the Hinduja Hospital research paper that generated a revolution in the TB policy in the country

P. D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Mumbai has been conferred the FIRST TB Champion Award by Global Health Strategies (GHS). GHS is an international consulting company that works with clients to ensure development and worldwide delivery of health products, technologies and information.

Hinduja Hospital was recognized for the importance the organization has given to accurate diagnosis and treatment and to optimally manage TB patients, provide reliable diagnostics and develop techniques for rapid diagnosis of TB and Drug susceptibility testing. The research report by Hinduja Hospital was published in January 2012.

The certificate mentions: "Hinduja has established state of the art diagnostic mycobacteriology lab handling smear, culture and OST. On the Molecular laboratory side they have performed TB PCR, LPA MTBR plus for drug resistant mutations to Isoniazid and Rifampicin and LPA MTB for resistant mutations. They have been accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and by the Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Government of India."

Hinduja Hospital was the first hospital in India to have come out with a research report that found 12 TB patients to be resistant to most anti TB drugs. The certificate credits Hinduja Hospital for bringing out the report resulting in a major restructuring of the National TB Control Program in Maharashtra state and Bombay Municipal Corporation to enhance case detection. The hospital has truly championed the cause of TB through research and in reaching out to poor on one side and influencing the policy holders on the other.
