Hemp Oil Hero Rick Simpson’s Home Raided and Seized in His Absence

While being honored at the 22nd Annual High Times Cannabis Cup, ‘Freedom Fighter of the Year’ Inductee Rick Simpson’s home was raided and seized in Athol, Nova Scotia, Canada. The medicinal cannabis community is still reeling, sorting through

(I-Newswire) December 4, 2009 - 3 December 2009: While factual accounts of which Canadian Police agency initiated the raid are unclear, it is now certain that Rick Simpson’s home was targeted and allegedly illicit property has been seized. According to the Amherst Daily News, among the seizure were: cannabis resin, marijuana production equipment, drug trafficking materials, and prohibited weapons. At the writing of this release, no details are available of neither the nature of the charges nor the details of the seized properties through either the Amherst Police Department, or Royal Canadian Mounted Police H Division (Nova Scotia) sources. When attempts were made throughout the day to clarify the initiating agency, neither Amherst PD nor the RCMP media contacts were willing to assume such responsibility. Rick is currently seeking political asylum in Europe.
Some Background Information on Mr. Simpson and His Efforts
• Mr. Simpson makes and distributes a medicinal cannabis extract popularly known as “hemp oil”. He does so without a profit motive. Many patients have claimed to be cured of their ailments, often terminal cancer, by this extract.
• He has had two prior run-ins with the law for the same activity, provided that is the current circumstance. Where the maximum penalty has been 12 years imprisonment in one of these instances, the courts instead levied a $2000 Dollar fine. The Courts Comments upon disposition indicate leniency due to the medicinal, non-profit nature of these actions.
• Mr. Simpson not only teaches people how to make this extract and provides it to the ailing folks who request it, but also uses it for a variety of his own medical issues.
