Heimatland Oktoberfest in Brunswick, Ohio August 27-29, 2010

The Old Fashioned Days Committee has partnered with Heimatland Restaurant, Diamond Event Center and Mapleside Farms to produce the Heimatland Oktoberfest this August.

The Old Fashioned Days Committee has partnered with Heimatland Restaurant, Diamond Event Center and Mapleside Farms to produce the Heimatland Oktoberfest this August 27-29, 2010. Complete with polka bands, men in lederhosen and women in dirndls, the festival will feature German food, Hofbräu beer and German wines.

The festivities will begin at 5 on Friday with the Al Zimmerman Oktoberfest Combo. The ceremonial keg tapping will be at 5:30. Also playing Friday is The Bob Kravos Band. Karaoke will begin at 8:00 with Bob Bruno.

Saturday the gates open at 3 with Deutscher Musik Verein performing on the main stage. The Hank Haller Ensemble takes the stage at 7:30. For a change of pace and tastes, the Freddie James Disc Jockeys will be on the second stage at 6:30. They will be taking requests and playing current hits.

The Chardon Polka Bands opens at noon on Sunday and the Joey Tomsick Orchestra takes to the stage at 4. Throughout the weekend, Ken & Mary of Music According to Accordians will be strolling among the crowds in addition to their stage performances.

A staple of Oktoberfest, the Masskrugstemmen Contest, will have three preliminary rounds leading to the final on Sunday evening at 7:15. The entry fee is $20, and all contestants keep their 1-liter mug along with the beer in it. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Hofbräuhaus in Pittsburgh and an overnight stay at the Marriott Spring Hills Suites.

Several dance groups from the area will be featured between bands, including the German Family Society Tanzgruppe (Akron), the Saxon Dancers, and Eternity Irish Dancers.
