Hand Woven Dog Collars Help Guatemalans

A new partnership between A Tail We Could Wag and Dog Collar Boutique is helping Guatemalan weavers improve their lives through the sale of hand woven dog collars.

Aurora, Illinois (I-Newswire) October 24, 2012 - Guatemalan weavers are earning an income and improving their lives by selling dog collars through a partnership with A Tail We Could Wag.

Civil war and impoverished conditions forced many Guatemalan women into raising their families on their own. However, these women possessed few skills outside of the traditional weaving techniques which had been passed down from their Mayan ancestors. For over 20 years, A Tail We Could Wag has worked with these weavers to share their beautiful art with the world. This partnership and the popular collars have provided a way for these women to improve their lives and the lives of their families and villages.

The collars and leashes from A Tail We Could Wag feature bright colors and patterns that capture the casual outdoor spirit and colorful artistry that began with the Mayan artisans. The designs, which are inspired by nature, are hand-woven in Guatemala and imported to the US where they are backed with a premium nylon webbing and brass D-rings in order to increase strength and durability.

The colorful patterns and durability have made these collars a favorite among dog owners.

“My Golden Retriever wore his Foolish Fish collar for years,” wrote Jude. “As a Golden, he was in the water more than out, and the collar held up wonderfully. We put him down at age 15 a month ago, and his Foolish Fish collar hangs from the collage we made for him. Our next Golden will honored to wear one too!”

These handmade Guatemalan collars and leashes are now available through Dog Collar Boutique.
