Kingsbrae Garden welcomes Cyril Lunney of Halifax Breakfast Television to the 3rd Annual National Sculpture Competition launch, June 9th at 1pm. Cyril will interact with 140 young school children at local artists' workshops and present the prizes

St Andrews, NB (I-Newswire) June 2, 2011 - Kingsbrae Garden has added some fun to the 3rd annual National Sculpture Competition festivities. Before the Sculpture Awards Ceremony at 1pm, the day will start with interactive workshops by local artists for 140 booked school children from around the County. Cyril Lunney from BT Halifax (Breakfast TV on 'A' /ATV/CTV) will be on hand to get in on the fun, not afraid to get his hands dirty. Pottery, painting, weaving, jewellery making... and a tour of the Garden for the children. They will likely head straight for the alpaca pen, a firm favourite with all ages. The animals are appealing, quirky and very engaging. And they love dandelions; there's a seemingly never-ending supply in the 99% chem-free horticultural garden. Besides the all-star alpacas are pygmy goats, peacocks, peahens, chickens, geese and ducks—quite a menagerie!

Next stop? The Children's Fantasy Garden, with four playhouses, all sorts of weeping trees and shrubs, plus a climbable castle. Can Cyril climb the turret? Come and find out, or tune in to BT to see what he gets up to.

Next, there's a BBQ for the kids, with the probability of a few extra hot dogs for the hungry crowd (by monetary donation to the Food Bank), plus limited service in the licensed Café, as there'll be a private function after the ceremony.

Cyril will be handing out the $10,000 and $5,000 prizes at 1pm to the lucky two of the thirteen sculptors from across Canada in this, Kingsbrae Garden's 3rd annual competition.

After the ceremony, visitors can enjoy the magnificent 27-acre Garden at their leisure.

Recent accolades include the 2011 Parks Canada Sustainable Tourism award, Top 5 North American Gardens Worth Travelling For (International Garden Tourism Council) and Boston Globe editor, Steve Jermanok's "Top 5 Travels in 2010", worldwide. Steve ranked the little-garden-that-could (at least, many dismissed the idea out of hand, back in 1995 when the Garden's patron was planning her floral opus in the little town of 1800 residents) with visiting the Maasai in Shompole, Kenya and biking in Giverny, France, along the canals of Hertfordshire (UK) and in the Florida Everglades.

The growing collection of Canadian sculpture has played a large part in the numerous acclimations of recent months and years. Kingsbrae Garden has been in operation since 1998, but has the air of a garden much longer established.

Membership or admission to the Garden applies. Charlotte County residents are offered free admission if they bring a paying guest—Kingsbrae's new Charlotte County Good Neighbours offer.

Kingsbrae Garden is open daily, 9am to 6pm, until October 8th, in Canada's premier seaside resort town, St Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick (Canada).
