Guilfoil Ballet Theater Presents "Fire" An Original Ballet And More At The Historic Fort Harrison
Ballet, modern dance, jazz and hip hop all found a home at the historic Fort Harrison on April 28th. Capping the evening of dance by the Guilfoil Ballet Theater was Andrew Guilfoil's ballet "Fire."
Online, May 3, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Clearwater, FL: More than 200 people arrived to the auditorium at Clearwater's historic Fort Harrison to see the Guilfoil Ballet Theater's spring show, featuring a special staging of the original ballet "Fire."
Conceived, choreographed and directed by Ballet Master Andrew Guilfoil, "Fire" was the highlight of an evening that showcased all of the different dance disciplines taught at the Guilfoil Academy of Dance. These include classical ballet, jazz, modern, musical theater and hip hop.
The first act of the concert featured dances to the music of Abba, Adele, Florence + the Machine and others. The act was capped by scenes from Giselle, the world's oldest ballet. The original 200+ year old choreography was staged.
Giselle tells the story of a peasant girl who falls in love with a young man, only to discover that he is of noble birth and betrothed to another. The news of his deceit drives her mad, and she dies of a broken heart. However, due to his love for her, he seeks out her spirit and she protects him from the vengeful spirits of brides who died before their wedding day.
After a short intermission, guests returned to the auditorium for "Fire", which featured all of the members of the Guilfoil Ballet Theater. "Fire" follows the story of life, death and rebirth in the context of the legend of the Phoenix.
The Guilfoil Ballet Theater (GBT) was founded in 2003 by Ballet Master Guilfoil. Every year audiences are amazed by the accomplishments through performance which are made by those dancers chosen to dance with GBT. Guilfoil, has directed, choreographed and staged over 30 major productions since 2003 including an annual Nutcracker and several original ballets.
The Historic Fort Harrison was originally built in 1926 and is now owned by the Church of Scientology. Fully restored in 2009, the Fort Harrison is a unique event venue available for charitable events.
