Green Bay Packers superstar Greg Jennings and The Omanhene Cocoa Bean Company today announced a Scholarship Program for teens in Milwaukee. A portion of sales of the custom-designed cocoa products will also go to the program.
When Milwaukee-born Steve Wallace studied abroad in Ghana as a high school student, it changed his life forever. Growing up in Kalamazoo, NFL All-Pro wide receiver Greg Jennings wasn't as fortunate to study abroad, but always wished he had been given the opportunity. Now the two are joining forces to provide study abroad scholarships to underserved youth through AFS, a nonprofit leader in international high school student exchange.
"I am very proud that the Greg Jennings Foundation will work with Omanhene, a Midwest-based company that produces cocoa and chocolate entirely on the African continent and does such good work around the world," Jennings said. "Our Foundation is about empowering young people to BE GREAT in whatever they choose, and this program will award scholarships to outstanding young people and change their lives in the way that no other experience can."
In addition to the scholarships being funded directly, the public can help out through the purchase of "The Greg Jennings Special." You don't have to be an All-Pro wide receiver to catch the best of Omanhene: hot cocoa and chocolate. The product is all natural; made with signature cocoa beans from Ghana, the same premium blend used by some of the trendiest coffee bars in the country, and the package also includes four bars of Omanhene dark milk chocolate, with 15% of the product cost being donated to the Jennings/Omanhene Scholarship. Greg Jennings Omanhene Hot Cocoa Mix will be featured in floor displays for Wisconsin grocery store chains, including Woodman's, Piggly Wiggly and Sendiks. The products are also available everywhere online at http://store.omanhene.com/greg-jennings.html
The Jennings/Omanhene Faces of America scholarship program is made possible with local support from the AFS Foundation of Greater Milwaukee. The Milwaukee youth involved in this program will be referred to AFS USA by Lake Valley Camp, a nonprofit organization that serves youth living in Milwaukee's most underserved communities.
AFS USA Faces of America provides high achieving students from low-income families a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad. By partnering with community-based organizations and individuals, FoA has already awarded study abroad scholarships to more than 780 outstanding teenage scholars.
