Grauer School Film Screening Depicts Peace Through Social Change
Encinitas, CA--The Grauer School and the Foundation for Women (FFW) will host the screening of the award winning film, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" on March 6 at 7:00 p.m. at The Grauer School.
Online, March 1, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Encinitas, CA---The Grauer School and the Foundation for Women (FFW) will host the screening of the award winning film, "Pray the Devil Back to Hell" on March 6, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. in the Great Room on the campus of the Grauer School located at 1500 S. El Camino Real in Encinitas. Directed by Emmy-winning and Academy Award® nominated filmmaker Gini Reticker and produced by Abigail Disney, the documentary chronicles the true story of the brave Liberian women who came together in prayer to end a horrific civil war and bring peace to their devastated country. The Grauer School is joined by the FFW, the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice (IPJ), USD School of Peace Studies and Jubilee San Diego to demonstrate the power of women as agents of social change. Collectively these sponsors recognize the need to bring this subject matter to the forefront, depicted effectively through this cinematic art form.
In the film, thousands of women join forces to pray for peace and stage a silent protest outside of the Presidential Palace. Equipped with only white T-shirts and the courage of their convictions, they demand a resolution to the country's civil war. A testament to how grassroots activism can alter the history of nations, this momentous event became a deciding factor in bringing about an agreement during the hindered peace talks. According to Dr. Stuart Grauer, "Our school is a community resource that serves as a catalyst to educate the general public on important topics of global proportion. Heightening awareness of women's issues in Africa invites dialog from our neighbors on how we might embrace the concept of peaceful social change and apply it to our day-to-day lives. With this film screening, we are bringing together the brightest minds in San Diego from the IPJ, USD, FFW and Jubilee San Diego to launch conversations in this arena."
The film is approximately one-and-a-half hours in length and includes a discussion.
