Grand Central Adams Morgan DC Celebrates New Streetscape

Grand Central bar and restaurant in trendy Adams Morgan celebrates the completion of 17-month Streetscape Project with DC Mayor Vincent Gray, DC Council Member Jim Graham, and a rousing shout-out to the Streetscape construction crew.

Washington, DC (I-Newswire) July 30, 2012 - Grand Central bar and restaurant in trendy Adams Morgan is celebrating with neighboring business owners and customers, what feels like a new day following a noisy, dusty, and detour-ridden Streetscape Project that took 17 long months to complete. Was it worth it? Co-owners Brian Vasile and Andy Seligman, and General Manager Ali Afshar all say, "Yes!"

Even though the community of business owners on 18th St NW between Florida Ave and Columbia Rd all felt the impact of discouraged pedestrian traffic and shifting parking patterns throughout the entire Streetscape project, Grand Central owners say they were heartened every time its intrepid customers showed their support with their feet and continued to come, bring their friends, and book their private events and fundraisers at Grand Central.

Apparently loyal Adams Morgan-goers, including those who frequent Grand Central, aren't much put off by layers of dust, a few traffic cones, and a construction barrier or two to vault. Not when they find everything good that they've come to love about Adams Morgan, once inside their favorite establishments.

"AdMo businesses have soldiered on and we are grateful to our customers for going the distance with us through all this," say Vasile and Seligman. "Now we all get to enjoy and take pride in this 'new' old neighborhood."

Indeed, the noise, dust, and debris have now been replaced with clean, widened and clutter-free sidewalks; new parallel parking spaces; bright and stylish street lighting; more bike racks; and better and spiffier looking trash and recycling containers. Add to that, pride of business-ownership has led many Adams Morgan establishments to step up their own curb appeal games. Grand Central is sporting cool new night lighting around their outdoor patio area--the largest in Adams Morgan.

DC Mayor Vincent Gray, Council Member Jim Graham and other officials were on hand to help Grand Central celebrate following a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 27, 2012 that marked the completion of the Streetscape project. Mayor Gray cut the cake and Graham said a few words as several of the construction workers were welcomed, thanked, and cheered inside Grand Central.

Grand Central regulars and new friends alike, are invited to celebrate extended Happy Hour until midnight, at Grand Central's back bar on Friday and Saturday nights for the rest of the summer.
