Governor Appoints The Design Group CEO to State Commission
The seven-year appointment speaks volumes about Jackson’s growing influence in central Arkansas’s political and business communities.
Little Rock, AR (I-Newswire) July 24, 2012 - Today, Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe announced his appointment of Myron Jackson to the Black History Commission of Arkansas. The seven-year appointment speaks volumes about Jackson’s growing influence in central Arkansas’s political and business communities.
The Black History Commission of Arkansas was created in 1991 and is comprised of seven individuals, all appointed by the governor of Arkansas, with the approval of the Arkansas Senate. Its mission is to collect black historical materials for the Arkansas History Commission, to encourage research in Arkansas Black history and to cooperate with the Arkansas Department of Education in the development of Black historical materials for use in public schools.
The commission also administers the Curtis H. Sykes Memorial Grant Program, which offers grants to fund projects related to Black history in Arkansas.
“I am honored to receive this appointment by Governor Beebe. I have a passion for history, especially my people’s history, and am grateful for the opportunity to help Arkansas continue to recognize and honor the contributions of Blacks in this great state,” Jackson said.
Currently, Jackson serves on several boards including the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas Black Hall of Fame Foundation, Arkansas Mississippi Minority Supplier Development Council, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS), Boys & Girls Club of Central Arkansas and American Advertising Federation of Little Rock.
He was also honored by the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce as its distinguished “Minority Businessperson of the Year” and by Arkansas Business Magazine as part of its “40 Under 40” class of 2011.
As co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at The Design Group, Jackson has overseen the company’s tremendous growth. In five years, it has become Arkansas’s leader in multicultural marketing, grossing more than five million dollars in annual revenue.
His arresting work is recognizable in the numerous campaigns he has implemented across multiple sectors. His clientele includes: Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency, Arkansas Economic Development Commission, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Basketball Association, Arkansas Energy Office and Arkansas Department of Health.
Jackson holds marketing and public relations degrees from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He also stays connected both personally and professionally through long-standing affiliations with the National Association of African American Advertising Agencies, National Association of Black Journalists, National Art Director’s Club, League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), Public Relations Society of America and American Advertising Federation.
