Government Produces Plans For More Energy Efficiency Incentives

Having previously announced the Green Deal for private properties, the government is putting a great deal of impetus on improving the environmental effect of properties in the UK.

The self-titled 'greenest government ever' has produced further plans to increase energy efficiency throughout the UK. This time the government has targeted the efficiency of commercial properties and businesses.

The plans include a proposal to pay companies to reduce their energy emissions and increase their energy efficiency. The aim of such an initiative is to offset the initial costs that will render significant savings for the company in the future.

Having previously announced the Green Deal for private properties, the government is putting a great deal of impetus on improving the environmental effect of properties in the UK. Many properties in the UK are not reaching their energy efficiency potential.

The first step of this process is to educate how and where a property owner can reduce their carbon emissions and energy efficiency. Many property owners remain blissfully unaware of how much money that they are losing every month in excessive energy costs. This education is expected to inspire the property owners to invest in their energy efficiency when they fully understand all of the positive implications.

The Energy Bill that has been published today has set out a series of measures to increase energy efficiency investment. These plans include plans to pay companies for every kilowatt of electricity that they save. The plan also details incentives to replace technologies with more efficient technologies.

These more efficient technologies include the implementation of LED Bulbs throughout commercial properties. Despite their higher initial costs, LED Bulbs are far more energy efficient than their halogen counterparts. An 8 watt LED Bulb will produce as much light as a 65 watt halogen light bulb. This equates to the LED being more than 8 times as energy efficient than its predecessor.

Not only would the implementation of LED Bulbs reduce the monthly lightly cost, it will also produce far greater results for the environment. These effects will then be rewarded by the government paying for every kilowatt of electricity. The longer life of the LED Bulb also leads to less frequent and therefore lower replacement costs.

Large commercial properties in particular can benefit from investing in LED Bulbs. Large open plan offices require a large amount of light. LED Downlights can create bask an office in a strong, even blanket of light.

Additional changes that can be made to increase the energy efficiency of an office include the installation of high quality windows that do not allow heat to escape and insulation in both walls and open spaces.
