Harrisonburg, VA is first American “IPv6 City of the Future” Mark Bayliss of World Airwaves Proclaims First Metropolitan Wireless Network With New Internet Benefits
WINCHESTER, Va., September,15 2006 --- Mark Bayliss, CEO of World Airwaves, a leader in wireless broadband Internet services and New Internet (IPv6) development and deployment, was featured as a speaker at the recent Innovation and Technology Conference, hosted by Congressman Bob Goodlatte, Co-Chairman of the Congressional Internet Caucus. Mr. Bayliss gave a presentation on the IPv6-enabled wireless network that will provide both fixed and mobile broadband access to the Internet throughout the entire city of Harrisonburg, VA, the first “IPv6 City of the Future” in America.
“The World Airwaves wireless network features IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6), a massive upgrade to the existing Internet standard (IPv4), which is over 30 years old. The Department of Defense and all Federal government agencies now require IPv6 capabilities by 2008,” said Mr. Bayliss at the conference. "Harrisonburg’s native IPv6 network will not only supply its residents with the most advanced and secure Internet service in North America, but will act as a testing ground for the development and introduction of IPv6 products and services for worldwide applications. This can prove to be a major attraction for bringing new businesses and jobs into the area.”
A number of projects to test IPv6 “killer applications” are planned throughout the vicinity, according to Mr. Bayliss. The concepts and results from these innovation initiatives will be graphically presented at a new local high-tech demonstration center, which will be managed and supported by Innofone.com, Inc., an IPv6 expert company and technology partner of World Airwaves.
Other presentations at the conference were given by Robert Cresanti, the Under Secretary for Technology of the US Department of Commerce, Pete McCloskey, the CEO of the National Science and Technology Education Partnership, and Jeff Chao, a Deputy Director of the GSA (General Services Administration); these presentations reflected government and national-level concerns, whereas World Airwaves was invited to air local and business viewpoints.
“For our ability to demonstrate cutting-edge technology in this area, all of us are indebted to Congressman Goodlatte and Senator Allen, and their persistent efforts to keep Virginia in a technology leadership position,” Mr. Bayliss commented.
