Mezzanine’s original signature drinks pack a mighty punch

TULUM, Riviera Maya (Feb.04, 2005) – Tulum’s swankiest boutique hotel, Mezzanine, shakes up the classic dry martini with a kaleidoscope of tropical flavored signature cocktails and specialty drinks that rival the paradisiacal setting of the Mayan Riviera.

Mezzanine (www.mezzanine.com.mx) started making waves when it opened last fall, redefining Tulum’s rustic lodging options with a splash of contemporary modernity and down-to-earth Euro chic sensibilities. Four minimalist suites complete with bold décor and airy overhead loft lounges overlook the aquamarine Caribbean Sea. The onsite restaurant serves up tasty authentic Thai dishes beneath billowing sail shades on a tiered stone patio beside the beach.

And a beach bar beside the cenote-style pool sets the mood with live ambient DJ music pulsing subtly as guests recline at low hand carved tables on woven grass mats and retro bean bag chairs, savoring the refreshing cocktails from Mezzanine’s main bartenders-with-attitude, Armando and Sergio. Mezzanine also has a selection of fine wines and a champagne menu including premium brands Verve Cliquote and the ubiquitous toast of the town, Moet & Chandon.

Martinis take the center stage at Mezzanine’s bar, with innovative combinations that reference the exotic Mexican Caribbean. Tangy guavapolitans are a pleasing marriage of tart lime and sweet guava juice; thaitinis surprise with a fusion of Asian-inspired flavors (lemongrass, mint and orange); mezztinis are tropical concoctions of vodka, Malibu, banana liqueur; and the startlingly simple yet playful scubatini refreshes with a mixture of vodka, blue Curaçao, and lime juice.

At Mezzanine, there is more than enough variety to make a modern day beachside James Bond babe beg for more than the standard “shaken but not stirred”. Even margaritas take on Mezzanine’s sassy attitude: green iguana margaritas give an extra bite with Midori, and red cactus margaritas pack a punch with tropical hibiscus. MEZZANINE’S JUNGLE JUICE:
Equal splash of all liquors: Peach Schnapps, Midori, Banana Liqueur, Vodka, White Rum, Cointreau, Malibu
Equal 1/3`s of cranberry, orange & pineapple juice.

MEZZANINE’S LATIN LOVER:
30ml Midori
15ml Blue Curacao
15ml Vodka
pineapple juice

Place all ingredients in a shaker with ice.Serve in a cocktail glass with pineapple garnish
