We don’t live in Ireland, but we sure celebrate like we do! St. Patrick’s Day is BIG holiday on the Grand Strand – and it’s more than a green beer or two! For years, people have associated Savannah, Georgia as being the best St. Patrick’s Day celebration, but they may have competition in South Carolina. We kick everything off with huge parade on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Lots of organizations such as the VFW, Legion, Shriners, others participate in the parade and then set up booths at the end of Main Street for vending. Local entertainment and eating establishments line the streets to continue the celebration on into the evening – Irish dancing, traditional music and food - it’s a lot of fun!
Local businesses decorate their storefronts weeks before and the countdown begins. Myrtle Beach is home to several great Irish bars and restaurants. All these places have something special going on in and around St. Patty’s Day. Pat & Mike’s Irish Pub in Little River has been a local favorite for years. They have an extensive menu for lunch and dinner and live entertainment nightly (and the best St. Patrick’s Day party around!) Stop in and have the best Reuben sandwich on the beach or a wonderful helping of Shepherd’s Pie – then head up to the bar for cocktail and enjoy the live local entertainment. So if you need a long weekend, or a just a couple days off work (it takes a couple of days to recover when you drink anything green!), then head down to Myrtle Beach and celebrate one of our most loved holidays.
