Delhi, India (I-Newswire) March 16, 2011 - Recently, Google penalized some bigwigs like J.C. Penny whose sites were found to have benefitted from some shady SEO tactics that were supposedly carried out by their SEO agencies.

It was discovered that J.C. Penny website dominated search results for a large number of keyword phrases across the board. Deeper investigation revealed that a huge number of links with keywords as anchor text have been placed on blogs. A large portion of these blogs were even not related to the keywords. But inspite of such clear warning, link buying has been now become a standard practice in SEO industry. But what must have peeved Google is the magnitude of this campaign by just one company. And once this was brought to public’s notice then there was no way Google would let the perception gain ground that its search engine rankings can be compromised. Thus, such a heavy penalty for J.C. Penny site.

After this incident, SEO consultants are in a big fix. For many of them link buying was the only way to promote a site and without this they really had no clue on how to make their site gain good rankings in Google search results.
