"Good" Thomas Wants To Help

(I-Newswire) March 8, 2010 - Bridgeton, Mo. (March 8, 2010) - The phones are ringing at St. Louis-based Thomas Construction Company, the largest home-remodeling firm in the area, and not for the usual reasons.
People are getting the St. Louis company, which handles 2000 projects a year from small remodels to major renovations, mixed-up with the Lake of the Ozark firm accused of hiring undocumented workers. People are outraged, and Thomas Construction President Stephen C. Townzen, who has spoken personally to a number of callers, says he doesn’t blame them.
“I’m happy to do that. We all are,” he says. “It’s part of getting the word out that no one should condone these kind of practices. We end up telling people what to look for in a reputable contractor, whether it’s us or another company.” He added that Thomas Construction Company of St. Louis, who has completed more home remodeling projects annually in the St. Louis/Metro East area than any other home improvement company in Missouri and Illinois, is in no way associated with the Osage Beach-based firm with a similar name.
A complaint was filed with the Attorney General’s office by Senator Kevin Engler, R-Farmington, against the Lake of the Ozarks company and its subcontractor for using undocumented workers to build a Hampton Inn in Farmington. On February 13, 2010, the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department arrested 14 undocumented workers on the construction site.
“We were shocked to find out about the scandal in the Lake of the Ozarks,” Stephen C. Townzen said, “and we were even more shocked to find that the good folks in St. Louis thought we had been involved.”
