Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme Rolled Out Across The City - Knauf Insulation

The Glasgow City Council is being expanded across the entire region and will allow people living in pre-1919 tenements and difficult-to-treat properties in areas of high deprivation to receive loft and cavity wall insulation.

Manchester (I-Newswire) September 13, 2012 - Glasgow residents are set to discover the benefits of home insulation following the citywide rollout of the Glasgow Home Insulation Scheme.

The Glasgow City Council is being expanded across the entire region and will allow people living in pre-1919 tenements and difficult-to-treat properties in areas of high deprivation to receive loft and cavity wall insulation .

Previously, the scheme was limited to areas with high proportions of older sandstone tenements including Dennistoun, Haghill, Govanhill, Pollokshields East, Govan and Ibrox, but is now being broadened based on its success thus far.

The aim of the project is to bring affordable warmth to all its citizens and stamp out fuel poverty, as insulation can help to greatly reduce heat loss from buildings and slash expenditure on heating bills as a result.

It is estimated that 62,000 homes benefited from loft insulation and 25,000 from cavity wall insulation under the Scottish government's Home Insulation and Universal Home Insulation Schemes between 2009/10 and 2011/12.

Householders have also been offered a free home energy audit and free impartial advice to help reduce fuel bills, courtesy of the Glasgow Home Energy Advice Team.

Councillor Gordon Matheson said: "I am determined to help Glasgow's citizens to make real savings and a real difference in their lives.

"By allowing homeowners the opportunity to apply for free insulation, we hope that we will make our housing in Glasgow more efficient, reduce the city's carbon footprint and help people save money on their fuel bills."

According to UK government figures, a total of 3.8 million lofts, two million cavity walls and 58,000 solid walls were insulated across the country between April 2008 - the date when the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target was introduced - and January 2012.

The statistics suggest that the majority of these improvements came as a result of government schemes.
