Georgetown Student Named Liebmann Fellow

Martin is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in philosophy at Georgetown, with a particular interest in bioethics and its ability to influence actual healthcare practice and policy. She hopes that legal studies will provide her with expertise in law and policy as well as additional tools for teaching and writing to be applied to her dissertation and further studies. She will resume her doctoral work at Georgetown upon completion of her law degree at Yale.



"My primary goal hasn't changed," Martin said. "I hope someday to teach about philosophical issues in bioethics at the college level. What I hope to gain by studying the law is an additional avenue from which to approach these issues and the skills needed to address them. I am profoundly grateful to the Georgetown's Department of Philosophy and the Liebmann Fund for making it possible for me to add this new dimension to my studies."



The Liebmann Fund annually recognizes outstanding students pursuing masters or doctoral degrees in the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences (including law, medicine, engineering and other professional training). The fellowship covers tuition costs and provides a stipend of $18,000 to selected students with the potential to be renewed for up to three years, assuming adequate process is made toward degree achievement. Successful candidates must have outstanding undergraduate records and be able to demonstrate financial need.



Dolores Zohrab Liebmann was the daughter of a prominent Armenian statesman. Throughout her lifetime, she supported educational opportunities for students as well as educational and charitable organizations that provided them. JPMorgan Chase Bank is a trustee of the Liebmann Fund.
