Set within the vineyards of the Touraine, a UNESCO world heritage site, Château du Rivau is a French château that combines medieval and Renaissance architecture with fairytale gardens.

Château du Rivau, a remarkable medieval and Renaissance French château, announces its program of jousting tournaments and other castle events for 2013.

Set in the heart of France's Touraine region, Château du Rivau seems to come straight out of a fairytale, thanks to its imposing keep, protective drawbridge and glorious gardens. Its original square layout, typical of a 13th century fortified French castle, combines with the ornamental features of a 16th century Renaissance French château, such as fireplaces, wide windows and frescos, to make it the perfect setting for spectacular castle events.

For a truly memorable day out in France, why not come and cheer on the contestants during the horse jousting tournaments at Château du Rivau on July 14th 2013? This exceptional event commemorates the occasion in 1446 when good King Rene organized jousting tournaments in honor of Jeanne de Laval, in which the Lord of the Rivau took on the Lord of Breze. The day will include no fewer than 4 medieval jousts, at 11.00am, 2.00pm, 3.15pm and 4.30pm, with the prize-giving ceremony scheduled for 5.30pm.

The Medieval Joust at Château du Rivau is sure to prove a great day out for all the whole family, as the day will also include an archery demonstration performed by Les Archers du Richelais, a calligraphy workshop, medieval games for the kids hosted by Pastourel, a tasting of special gourmet foods, and a book signing of "Following Joan of Arc throughout Touraine" by its author Bernard Briais.

In the French château's fairytale gardens, visitors will meet jugglers from the Compagnie Iliode, the lords and ladies of Chinon's medieval market organisation, and the knights of the Storytellers of Legends, who will re-enact famous and memorable medieval battles. The visitors will travel from the Irish shores to the walls of Jerusalem, accompanied by the sounds of harp and horn, and the clash of swords!

Tickets may be booked in advance online or by phone on +(33) 2 47 95 77 47. Prices are as follows: Adults - 11 euros; Children (aged 5 to 16) - 6 euros; Family pass: (2 adults and 2+ children) - 30 euros.

And jousting tournaments are not all this splendid French château has to offer! Also featured in the castle events program for 2013 are: Garden Days on June 2nd and 3rd, when visitors will have the opportunity to wander the castle gardens, mingle with extraordinary artists from all backgrounds and discover their works of art inspired by gardens; classical concerts in summer and autumn; and the 2013 wine auction, November 2nd.
