Fujitsu Self-checkout Offers Self-service to Shoppers in Japan

(I-Newswire) February 13, 2005 - With its new Fujitsu self-checkout system, OKUWA has shortened its customers' waiting time and differentiated its service from other stores. The chain has been able to increase the efficiency of its store employees and improve service to customers by more effectively stationing sales clerks.

OKUWA customers can choose to use a manned register or the self-checkout system. Using the self-checkout system, customers can shorten their shopping time by checking prices, scanning, bagging and paying by cash or card for their orders all at the self-checkout.

The Fujitsu line of self-checkout systems ranges from a single-bag kiosk unit, to a dual-belt lane for large volume orders that enables two shoppers to utilize a single unit at different stages in the self-checkout process. The system integrates seamlessly and can communicate on a real-time basis with existing POS systems. Fujitsu self-checkout systems can easily handle express, medium- and large-volume orders and can be resized on site.
