FRS Custom Solutions Offers ComLink ProSlate 10D Dedicated Speech Generating Device Based on Apple iPad

ProSlate™ 10D Combines Speech Generating Technologies with iPad Software for Innovative AAC Device

FRS Custom Solutions, an industry leader in providing augmentative communication devices, will offer the ComLink ProSlate™ 10D augmented alternative communication (AAC) device for persons with difficulties generating speech. The ProSlate™ 10D is the first full featured AAC device to harness an iPad as its core platform. It is also the first iOS based device to meet all of the requirements of Medicare and Medicaid to be funded as a dedicated speech generating device.

"The ComLink ProSlate™ 10D combines the superior performance of an iPad with the proven innovations used in our AAC devices," said Paul Forbes, President of Forbes Rehab Services, Inc. "Where the iPad lacks in AAC use, our ProSlate™ 10D compensates with the FlexABLE™ Handle and Stand, SoundPOD Wearable Speaker Module, military grade enclosure, key guards, an array of mounting options, and supports the use of wireless switches."

Included with the ProSlate™ 10D is FRS' SoundPOD™ that enables loud and clear voice output that can be connected to the device magnetically or worn around the neck on a lanyard. The FlexABLE™ Handle and Stand creates an ergonomic solution for people with limited dexterity. It rotates and magnetically locks into position to support vertical or landscape use of the iPad. A military grade rubber and high impact plastic encloses the iPad, allowing for the demands of daily use.

"The FlexABLE™ Handle and Stand is the best ergonomic solution I have evaluated for people with limited dexterity that offers the optimal interface to manually interact with an iPad device," said Alain Laferriere, Ergonomist and Assistive Technology Professional (RESNA) for FRS.

The ProSlate™ 10D is backed by a five year warranty that includes tech support on both hardware and apps. Clients customize them by selecting an AAC app of their choice to be preloaded, configured and ready for immediate use.

FRS plans to offer a conversion program wherein AAC evaluation centers can send in their iPads to be converted into the new ProSlate device to be used for evaluation purposes.

The ProSlate™ 10D is set to launch on November 13 and at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) tradeshow on November 15 - 17 in Atlanta, Georgia.
