FREE Workshop for Baby Boomer Job Seekers

Maple Grove (I-Newswire) January 10, 2012 - Unemployment is still a hot topic and is bound to be on the platform for the upcoming presidential candidates. Here is what one local small business owner is deciding to do about the problem right here in MN. He is providing a free workshop for job seekers to gain useful information and skills to find a job faster.

You Can Get Hired is a free monthly workshop focused on helping baby boomers who have been at their jobs for the last 20+ years and now find themselves job searching again. We chose this age group specifically because we have seen reports that show their unemployment rate is at least twice the national average. We bring experts in who talk about using social media for the job search, resume/cover letter best practices, networking, different places to find job opportunities, how to over come the "over qualified" excuse, interview tips and so much more.

Our fist speaker, Rebecca Moser, CPA, of Moser and Associates talks about what you need to pay attention to with being unemployed and your taxes.
There are lots of things you can write off and there are many others you need to be careful of! She will explain the difference between being an 1099 Independent contractor vs a W2 employee, the tax ramifications and identifying the deductions that are applicable to both.

Our second speaker, Ericka Heid has over 15 years of Human Resource management experience. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource management and completed her SPHR certification in 2006. Ericka will be discussing: Resumes that grab the HR managers attention, what HR mangers are really looking for in a candidate, how to provide the “wow” factor, and get noticed.
