It's written from the non-vampire, human boyfriend's point of view. The short story takes just a little bit from the

beginning of the novel and turns it around to tell it from Charlie's point of view as he struggles to understand what is

happening to his girlfriend. Don't worry, it's not a spoiler for the main novel.

Set in Saint Augustine, Florida, the innate mystery of America's Ancient City lends it charm and lush landscape to the

backdrop. Carmella begins to act as if she's sick, which is not so strange, until she reveals to Charlie the real symptoms
