Dr. David Alpan, a Los Angeles orthodontics expert, debunks the four most common myths about Invisalign.
Los Angeles, CA (I-Newswire) December 1, 2011 - LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - Patients that come through the offices of Aesthetic Orthodontics often have preconceived ideas about orthodontic treatment, but sometimes the "facts" are actually fiction.
Dr. David Alpan, a Los Angeles orthodontics expert, is addressing the four he and his staff hear most frequently about Invisalign. Invisalign only works for simple orthodontic cases.
False. Most malocclusions can now be treated with Invisalign technology, including Class II and III malocclusions, overbite and underbite, although certain cases need a combination of Invisalign and short-term traditional braces.
"Patients with serious malocclusions, even ones requiring complex surgical intervention, can be treated with Invisalign," says Alpan, a TMJ dentist. Traditional braces are more stable than Invisalign treatment.
"That's not true. Retainers are essential to hold properly aligned teeth in place no matter what orthodontic treatment the patient received, so there is no one treatment type that is more stable than another," says Alpan, who also offers braces for children , another type of invisible braces.
In fact, scientific evidence shows that there is no difference in stability between an orthodontic case treated with Invisalign or one treated with traditional braces. As people age, most of them will experience tooth movement, regardless of orthodontic treatment or wisdom tooth extraction. Invisalign treatment will take longer.
Incorrect, Treatment times vary from case to case, but Invisalign treatment time is comparable to other types of braces with an average of about a year. One of the many benefits of Invisalign is that there are usually fewer office visits than other orthodontic treatment plans.
Invisalign costs more than traditional orthodontic treatment.
Wrong again. The cost for Invisalign treatment is comparable to that of traditional braces, meaning prices vary depending on treatment goals, difficulty of the case, length of treatment, location and insurance coverage. Alpan, who is also a kids' orthodontist, offers in-house, no-interest payment plans and third-party financing at his practice making treatment even more affordable.
