Fort Lee Rotary Announces Dinner Gala Fundraiser on April 6th to Sponsor Local Veterans for PTSD Program

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder affects many war veterans who have served our country. The Fort Lee Rotary Club, in partnership with the Heroes to Heroes Foundation, is sponsoring local veterans to a 10-day PTSD treatment program in Israel.

Fort Lee NJ (I-Newswire) March 18, 2013 - The Fort Lee Rotary Club, in partnership with the Heroes to Heroes Foundation, is pleased to announce its Gala Dinner Dance Fundraiser honoring returning veterans on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The dinner dance starts at 6:30 p.m. It is being held at the Fort Lee Recreation Center located on Stillwell Ave. The proceeds will go towards sponsoring local veterans to participate in a treatment program located in Israel.

The Gala Dinner Dance will include performances from Fort Lee Bagpipers and the Fort Lee Police Honor & Color Guard. In addition, entertainment will include Singer Kathy Blum, DJ Henry Booth and Tango dancers.

“Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of our soldiers who have given so much to our country. We welcome everyone to the gala dinner dance for food, fun entertainment and a great cause,” explains John Koch of the Fort Lee Rotary Club. “Together, we can make an once-in-a-lifetime difference for our veterans,” he adds.

A recent study by the Veterans Administration reveals that nearly 30% of its patients who served in Iraq and Afghanistan have Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a silent but debilitating anxiety disorder that occurs in both men and women who have undergone a traumatic event that involves the threat of injury or death. PTSD, also known as shell shock or combat stress, can lead to dire consequences such as severe depression or suicide.

The Heroes to Heroes Foundation was established in 2010, by Judy I. Schaffer to offer hope to those veterans with this condition. She continues to serve as president for the organization. She aims to help as many veterans as possible. The organization sponsors veterans for a 10-day program in Israel specializing in treating PTSD. For nearly sixty years, PTSD has been part of the Israeli psyche. It has become a center point for providing the successful treatment options for those with suffering with this anxiety disorder.

"The purpose of the trip is to have the participants motivate, inspire, teach and support one another as they are exposed to different perspectives, veteran's services and the sights and sounds of the Holy Land," says Judy Schaffer. "The trips are secular and veterans from all services and all backgrounds are welcomed," she adds.

As part of the fundraising event, proceeds will go towards sponsoring local veterans to be part of the Heroes to Heroes trip and PTSD program.
The evening will consist of delicious food, fun and music to make for a memorable event. The Fort Lee Rotary Club is pleased to invite all to this noteworthy event. Tickets are available from John Koch, Journal Chairman at 201-294-4921 or Lillian Ciufo, Chairman, at 201-947-7400, ext. 7
