Portland-Based Professional Boxer Jana Simms Expands Boxing Opportunities in Portland and Launches New Website

Portland, OR-- Six days a week, former Pro-Fighter Jana Simms offers boxing classes that meet the needs of any individual, from the most experienced to the new beginner. Each class offers one on one attention, expert, motivating instruction, as well as a combined physical and mental workout. Her new website, www.portland-boxing.com, outlines her boxing program, the philosophy behind her training, as well as a schedule of her group classes, located at Alive MMA in Southeast Portland at 5607 SE Woodstock Boulevard.

Jana’s ability to teach all levels of boxers allows everyone to feel welcome, challenged, and comfortable learning at their own pace. Under her instruction, boxers learn to pull power from the ground, the importance of syncing their legs and body with each punch, as well as the value of speed and velocity in form and power. Her website states, “a variety of drills and bag work, close attention to technique and footwork all combine to create a well rounded boxer. Whether the focus is conditioning, self-defense or competition, each boxer will receive what they initially came to boxing for, and so much more.”

Not only does Jana provide training to boxers at all levels, she puts her full heart into each class. While boxing may involve rigorous conditioning, she explains, the most challenging component of boxing is in training your heart. “Having heart is not just about being able to take a punch. It's about being able to keep going when you think you can't. It's about accepting defeat... and success, and still maintaining a good work ethic. It's about never making excuses, in the gym, in the ring, in your personal life. Having heart is not only necessary in forming a great boxer, having heart is essential in creating great people.”
In addition to Jana’s commitment to teaching, she is also greatly broadening the opportunities for boxers in both the amateur and professional classifications to gain more experience and exposure. Jana’s boxers have recently fought in Idaho, Washington and will head to Lebanon, Oregon later this month. If your city would like to bring the “sweet science” of boxing to your community, please contact us!
