Food Safety during Commonwealth Games
Be assured of the quality of your food with Safe Food Destination
New Delhi, 8th July 2010: TQS Global Management System has launched the "Safe Food Destination" program for food safety concerns related to the Commonwealth Games in coordination with the standard devised by Food Safety & Standards Authority of India. With the Commonwealth Games barely 80 days away, awareness for food safety should be created in both the sectors- food serving establishments and food consumers.
SFD is a package that offers - testing of the food products, training of the staff, auditing and consulting. It started with the vision of making the nation a safe food destination. As the planning of CWG and food safety guidelines for India took new shape, many problems in the existing food industry were identified by the experts. With the need for proactive measures and international standards of food safety and security becoming increasingly crucial in the food business, the "Safe Food Destination" program was designed. After understanding the problems and needs of food establishments, it was concluded that food safety cannot be attained by a single solution for example by just audits or inspections, but a multifarious approach where the operator is made to understand the implications along with affordable and feasible solutions.
"For the first time in India, TQS is bringing consumer insurance as in terms of limited claims towards any mishap/ illness arising out of food safety issues in TQS registered SFD outlets. The consumer is at peace of mind as he is insured against any health injury arising out of food borne disease. At the same time the restaurant stakeholder is also confident as his liabilities are limited." said Mr. N.L.B Pantulu , Vice President Operations.
The SFD Program offers technical support for registered units, tailor made specific consultancy towards up-gradation of facility, interactive workshops on hygiene and sanitation, techniques of dynamic cooking to maintain GKP / GMP, determination of optimum shelf life for microbe sensitive curries / food, complete lab-support for proactive sampling and resolving issues, and creation of a 3 tier proactive defence mechanism to avoid contaminations.
With the help of the program, TQS aims at protecting public health by reducing the risk of food borne illness, protecting consumers from unsanitary, unwholesome, mislabeled or adulterated food and contributing to overall development by maintaining consumer confidence in the food system and providing a new perspective to those who run food eateries.
The major advantage of this program is that it has been designed in a manner to promote the overall understanding of food safety and security. Regular training/ workshops are conducted so that food safety becomes a habit for all the departments in the outlet. Systems in the outlets are developed in a way that no scope for system bypasses is left. With consistently trained staff and improved system throughout the year, SFD is far more advantageous than the regular one time stamping exercise of any certification. Moreover, it gives the food operator the confidence to face any third party inspections at any time because food safety is assured continuously. Till date, the program has been recognized as the most effective pattern of implementation of food safety in the present Indian scenario by FSSAI.
