Florida Fitness Camp Launches Wellness Program for Soldiers

(Veterans Essential Transition Solution), a new health and wellness program designed exclusively for military veterans and their families.

Recognizing that the transition from military service can be a difficult one, the V.E.T.S. program helps soldiers and their families re-acclimate into civilian life through a holistic approach to health and well-being.

The program includes treatment of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), conditions that often go undiagnosed in members of the armed forces.

Campers receive their own beach condos and participate in daily group workouts, personal training sessions, massage therapy sessions, nutrition coaching, recreational activities, and one-on-one counseling sessions with a licensed psychotherapist.

Core Fitness Solution was one of the first residential weight loss camps in the U.S. to integrate mental health counseling into its programs. Core’s founder Linda Mullins, always felt that psychological counseling was the missing component in other programs.

She notes there are differences between her camp’s weight loss curriculum and the V.E.T.S. program, but says Core’s philosophy centers on achieving life-balance, offering something for everyone.

“This isn’t about weight loss. This is about re-integrating soldiers into family life and transitioning them into civilian life. We’re doing it through exercise, proper nutrition, psychological counseling, and some fun,” says Mullins.

Core Fitness is offering the program at a 10% discount to active and non-active members of the armed forces.

Through a partnership with the Louisiana Armed Forces Foundation, Mullins, who comes from a military family, hopes to subsidize the program, making it accessible to everyone who needs help.

“We’re serving people who are serving our country and filling a real need,” says Mullins who notes that family members are encouraged to attend.
