Five Cities Inaugural Marathon

San Dimas (I-Newswire) July 21, 2011 - All have heard of the classic novel “The Tale of Two Cities” but have you heard of the five cities coming together for a historical event?

On Sunday, October 9, 2011, the Inaugural Five Cities Marathon will take place. The event will pass through Pomona, La Verne, San Dimas, Glendora and Claremont. In an unprecedented running event, the Inaugural Five Cities Marathon will capture a spirit of community, competition and accomplishment all in one great race.

Residents, local businesses, schools and community groups can contribute in volunteering in many different ways along the race route such as coming out onto the course and serving water, goodie bag distribution, cheering the runners, etc. Meanwhile, businesses have the great opportunity to be a sponsor of this community event and can advertise their business and/or organization thru this 2-day event.

A special medal will be given to the fastest resident male and female from each of the participating cities. Also, awards will be given to the overall runners of each age division.

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 will be an EXPO for all to attend at Cal-Poly Pomona.

The Five Cities Marathon is a non-profit organization on a mission to promote health and wellness through this event. They have partnered with the American Diabetes Association.

Preparation continues for the Inaugural Five Cities Marathon. Race Director, Lori Calderon states, “This type of event requires 800 volunteers…residents and community are needed to fill these positions over a two day period during the EXPO and on the race day.” The Five Cities Marathon company just accomplished a successful Guns ‘N’ Hoses Half Marathon and 5K in Ontario, CA for the Western States Police and Fire Games.
