Fitz Casino And Hotel Reopens Today in Tunica

Popular Mississippi resort and gaming destination reopens following last month's river flooding

Tunica, Mississippi (I-Newswire) May 27, 2011 - Four weeks after Mississippi floodwaters caused a mandatory closing of all nine casinos in Tunica, the all-new Fitz Casino & Hotel Tunica is reopening today, May 27 at 4 p.m.

“Luck really does live here at the Fitz,” said general manager Chuck Miller. “Our team members have worked harder than ever to keep the flood waters at bay and secure the casino from flooding. We filled and stacked sand bags and built temporary dams and water barriers to protect it. The water came just inches from the doors but we held strong and didn’t let it in.”

The river reached its second highest crest in recorded history of 47.8 feet on May 10. The Fitz, along with eight other hotel casinos, closed temporarily.

“We are thrilled to bring the Fitz family back together here in Tunica,” said Miller. “Many of our guests and team members have been with us for years and we are grateful for the overwhelming support we have received from both during this time.”

The all-new Fitz Casino & Hotel will open its doors with food, fun and prizes today. The public is invited to come out and enjoy free beer, hamburgers, ribs and hotdogs as part of the “Fitz Family Reunion” re-opening celebration Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and again on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. at the casino front entrance. There will also be t-shirts given away the first hour today between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

“We are opening with 100 percent of our amenities available for our guests,” said Miller. “It will be a true family reunion.”

Among the activities the Fitz is hosting during its re-opening are food, game and promotion specials throughout the month of June. “Like any good family reunion, there will be lots of food,” said marketing vice president Chris Barron. “We’ll have $5 buffet prices every Monday through Thursday in June from 7 a.m. to close. We are also hosting Friday Night Blackjack tournaments every Friday in June with just a $20 buy-in.”

Barron said the casino is also hosting “$120,000 Promo Cash Weekends” with drawings from 6 to 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday evening in June. The program includes 5X Bonus Points on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. “And of course there are lots of goodies including our signature ‘I Survived the flood of 2011’ t-shirt*, a Father's Day 31-piece Emergency Roadside Set* and a 12-piece dinnerware gift* available by earning points on your Key Rewards card and while supplies last.”

The all-new Fitz Casino & Hotel Tunica offers guests more than 1340 slot machines, 34 table games, restaurants including Don B’s Steakhouse and the Riverview Buffet, live entertainment at the Fitz Stage Bar and more than 500 newly renovated rooms and suites.
