Fayetteville Developer Wins NC Housing Finance Agency Recognition

Awards from the NC Housing Finance Agency honors the best in affordable housing development across the state and this year local Fayetteville developer United Developers was recognized for three of their developments.

Fayetteville, NC (I-Newswire) October 18, 2012 - Awards from the NC Housing Finance Agency honors the best in affordable housing development across the state and this year local Fayetteville developer United Developers was recognized for three of their developments: Dogwood Manor, Oak Run and Sycamore Park.

“When we started these developments, we were just excited to improve our community in the way we know best: developing housing people can be proud to call home,” Chairman Murray Duggins explained. “To be recognized among our peers is an honor.”

All three developments fall under United Developers’ Carolina Commons communities, a large-scale revitalization of a downtown public housing complex that has already made a $125 million economic impact on the city according to local Chamber of Commerce estimates. These three apartment complexes were developed by United Developers and The Communities Group with support from the City of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority and Cumberland County who were also recognized by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency. These three Hope VI properties along with three additional developments currently under construction provide housing for over 700 families.

The Old Wilmington Road revitalization is integral to Fayetteville’s Downtown Renais¬sance, which calls for preservation of the city’s historical heritage. The proposed site-design combines semi-urban residential layouts with the neighborhood’s agricultural roots. Six acres of community gardens complete the pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.

Dogwood Manor, Oak Run and Sycamore Park were financed with funding from the City of Fayetteville, PWC, Cumberland County, Hope VI funds and federal and state tax credits awarded by the N.C. Housing Finance Agency.

“We were really fortunate to have developed a successful team that made all of this happen. We feel we are improving the lives of others,” Duggins said.

The awards presentation was held on September 27, 2012 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
