Fastvideo Announces Blazing Fast GPU Debayer Software
GPU Debayer software developed by Fastvideo demonstrates extremely fast demosaicing of raw 8-bit Bayer images to full-color 24-bit RGB format.
Moscow (I-Newswire) March 13, 2013 - The application employs high quality Debayer algorithms HQLI and DFPD on NVIDIA GPU which results in excellent performance: now we need only 1.25 ms for Full HD image demosaicing on GeForce GTX 580.
Digital cameras store image data in a raw format where each pixel originally has only one color component from R, B and G values. The actual full color of each pixel is a result of a special computation procedure that calculates missing color components. Process of color interpolation is usually called demosaicing or debayering.
GPU Debayer software developed by Fastvideo, applies the proven NVIDIA CUDA technology for color interpolation of raw images. Compared with traditional methods, Fastvideo designed parallel and highly optimized implementation of HQLI and DFPD demosaicing algorithms to produce exceptionally fast conversion of 8-bit raw images to 24-bit RGB with high quality and minimum moire.
Fastvideo GPU Debayer utilizes parallel processing on NVIDIA GPU that not only frees CPU for other tasks, but also provides extremely high processing speed - up to 1800 Mpix/sec for HQLI, and up to 1600 Mpix/sec for DFPD algorithm on GeForce GTX 580, including an overhead for data transfer to and from GPU. If we don´t take into account the overhead for the above algorithms, then throughput is in the range of 5-18 Gpix/sec.
"Many industrial applications require realtime and high quality demosaicing software, and quite often slow image processing is a real bottleneck", says Fyodor Serzhenko, CEO and the leading developer at Fastvideo. "GPU Debayer software shows unparalleled performance, and we plan to build more complicated and more sophisticated solutions for image processing on NVIDIA GPUs".
GPU Debayer software is distributed for free for demonstration purposes. GPU Debayer requires Windows 7 or higher, and NVIDIA graphics card series 400, 500, 600, 700 or higher with the latest drivers installed.
