Farrell's Makes Contestants, Family Members Scream For Ice Cream In Finals Of First Annual Splendiferously Superiffic Ice Cream Eating Contest

Fastest Men, Women, Team Crowned; Farrell's Pig's Trough in One Minute, Zoo in Two Minutes

MISSION VIEJO, CA (July 19, 2010) - Despite outside temperatures in the 90s, the brain freezes were in full force inside Farrell's in Mission Viejo on Sunday as the fastest eight men, seven women, and three four-person teams squared off in the Splendiferously Superiffic Summer Spectacular Ice Cream Challenge.

The finalists, who had qualified over the last month at the three Farrell's locations in Mission Viejo, Santa Clarita, and the San Diego Fair, each brought their own cheering section made up of spouses shaking their heads, cheering co-workers, screaming children, and supportive best friends.

In the women's competition, Tisha Stevens of Lake Forest bested her six rivals by consuming the Farrell's Pig's Trough, a traditional banana split times two; two scoops each of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry and double helpings of chocolate, pineapple and strawberry toppings, in 2 minutes and 37 second. Next up was the men who stretched across the width of Farrells' party room at the competitors table and similarly dug in to the Trough, a traditional Farrell's favorite. This competition was over almost before it started, with Robert Gabbiano of Laguna Niguel showing his empty ice cream tray and empty mouth 1 minute and 15 seconds into the competition.

Concluding the midday festivities was the team competition. In walked Team Budweiser, Team Unstoppable Force and a quartet simply known as Team 3 Kids and an Old Guy. Two minutes and 11 seconds later, the Old Guy has lead his team to victory by completing the world famous Farrell's Zoo, a giant bowl with 30 scoops, including four different flavors of ice cream plus three fruit flavor sherbets plus four toppings plus whipped cream plus cherries plus bananas, and of course, the real-looking but plastic zoo animals and decorations that the participants must eat around to finish. Team 3 Kids and an Old Guy were represented by Eric Hall, Jordan Weis, Nick Johnson, and Fawad Alwi, all of Orange County.

After masterfully eating messy mouthfuls, the champions in each category took a ceremonial victory lap around the store located at the Mission Viejo Mall. For their digestive skills, each received the bragging rights of being Southern California's fastest ice cream eater, a year's supply of ice cream, prominent placement in the Farrell's menu, and the obligatory ice cream trophy.

Also benefitting from the event was the Children's Hospital of Orange County, who was represented by legendary ice cream eater Choco the Bear and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation, who will each receive a portion of the $3000 in proceeds from the event.
