San Diego, CA (I-Newswire) August 28, 2011 - FanFaire Foundation Announces Messiah Sing-Along Soloists' Competition
$1000 Prize awaits Best Soloist; applications accepted thru October 14, 2011

Are you a classical singer who dreams of one day singing onstage with an orchestra in an acoustically superior hall?

Then consider joining FanFaire Foundation's Messiah Sing-Along Soloists' Competition on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the elegant French Parlor in University of San Diego's Founders Hall. The competition, which is open to all voice types, is the vehicle for selecting singers (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) who will sing the solo arias in the Foundation's Second Messiah Sing-Along and Play-Along Concert to be held at the fabled Neurosciences Institute Auditorium on Friday December 2, 2011 at 7:30 pm and Sunday December 4, 2011 at 2:30 pm. A $1000 Grand Prize awaits the singer adjudged to be the Best Soloist.

This year's adjudicators include San Diego Opera Resident Conductor Maestro Karen Keltner, internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Suzanna Guzman, and FanFaire's Ambassador for Community Outreach, Dr. Angela Yeung. Applications are being accepted until October 14, 2011 and forms are available online at http://fanfairefoundation.org/

Both the Soloists' Competition and the Sing-Along/Play-Along are now regular annual events of FanFaire Foundation's Community Outreach Program following its hugely successful inaugural Messiah Sing-along in December 2010. The Foundation takes pride in showcasing these projects as genuine community events, as well it should.

Aspiring talented young singers from local communities participate in the soloists' competition which is adjudicated by prominent members of Southern California's musical elite. The winners welcome the opportunity to sing as soloists with an orchestra, some for the first time, in the Neurosciences Institute Auditorium, a hall acoustically designed by Cyril Harris who engineered the acoustics of such great halls as the Metropolitan Opera and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. At the Sing-Along and Play-Along concert, the audience is grouped into the various voice types and transformed from mere spectators to program participants when the conductor turns to conduct them as they sing the choral parts, with orchestral accompaniment provided by the Greater San Diego Community Orchestra directed by Dr. Angela Yeung. The Orchestra is an all-volunteer ensemble of about 40 amateur but talented musicians of all ages from various San Diego communities, a good number of whom have parallel careers in science and engineering. Anyone in the community who plays a musical instrument may contact Dr. Yeung for a chance to play with the orchestra offstage before the front row, musically cueing the audience as they sing selected choruses and the popular Hallelujah. These and all other Foundation events, which seek to provide the community with a life-enriching musical experience, are funded solely by individual donations with limited support from some local businesses.

FanFaire Foundation is a San Diego County-based nonprofit public benefit organization founded in 2009. Its mission of nurturing creativity among people of all ages, but especially the young, through music and science appreciation programs is based on the belief in the power of music to enhance the skills needed for learning science and math, transcend human differences, and break barriers between peoples.
