The first Silent Hill film features a girl called Sharon who is adopted by Rose and Christopher Da Silva. The little girl was repeatedly sleep walking whilst calling the name of a town called ‘Silent Hill’. This town has a long history of witch burnings and stemming from cult beliefs of the people who inhabited the town. Rose takes Sharon to the town but crashes due to a child being in the road. When rose awakens the child is missing and there is a cloud of ash descending. Another woman called Dahlia tells Rose that Sharon is her dead daughter Alessa, in spirit. Alessa was burned in a ritual many years ago and is now after revenge.

The new film follows the story of Sarah, who escaped the town in the first film, in her teenage years as the town tries to get her to come back. She later realizes that she has no origin and is dragged back into the fictional town of Silent Hill. Along this route she will encounters the demons and monster of the previous film. These monsters include Pyramid Head, Monocle Man, Bubble Head Nurses and Butchers.

The gruesome script of these films has made them popular amongst millions and this has been the same for the fancy dress costumes of the characters.
