Facial Fillers and Answers You Should Know Before Having a Treatment

Have the signs of aging been dragging down your self-esteem? Well you are not alone. If wrinkles and sagging skin are your concern then the option of a facial filler treatment may be the answer.

Each year countless men and women consult with cosmetic specialists to find a non-surgical solution to wrinkles and sagging skin. The answer is the injection of Radiesse, Restylane or Juvederm that are far less invasive and more cost effective then a facelift.

A concern that many people have regarding facial fillers is putting a foreign substance into ones body. These dermal fillers or injectables are made of materials naturally occurring in own bodies. Juvederm and Restylane are made of hyaluronic acids that are found in our skin. Radiesse is longer lasting filler that is calcium based. With long term research and FDA approval these fillers are a safe bet.

Another concern is the side effects associated with facial filler injections. These will be minimal with patients experiencing some discomfort during the procedure that can be reduced with topical numbing cream, ice and even a lidocaine injection if necessary. The injection site may have temporary discoloration, bruise, swell, and be tender to the touch for a few days after the treatment.

We asked Dr. Rubaum a facial plastic surgeon and owner of the Laser Image Company, a medical spa specializing in non-invasive cosmetic procedures his thoughts. "As we age our faces start to get a hollow look around the eyes and the nasolabial folds (lines below the cheeks) become more pronounced. Facial fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane or Radiesse are excellent non-invasive solution to the loss of volume, that causes skin laxity and wrinkles."

Lastly, the decision on which facial filler to use is one that needs to be discussed with the medical practitioner that will be doing injecting. Dr. Rubaum states, "a persons skin type, age, area of concern, skin laxity, and the patients expected outcome are just some of the criteria used to make the decision if Radiesse, Restylane or Juvederm will be used."

Choosing and experienced nurse or doctor who listens to your concerns, understands the facial fillers being used and has extensive knowledge of the facial anatomy is very important when making your decision. Once that choice is made, expect to see immediate change in the areas where injected and results to last from six months to two years.

The use of facial fillers such as Radiesse, Juvederm and Restylane give patients an effective alternative to the surgical facelift procedure.
