Expecting Dad Survey Shows How Men Are Reading Up On Their New Position!

(I-Newswire) March 5, 2010 - The results of a survey targeting the expecting dad have shown that around half of the men asked, around 50% of them had very little knowledge/experience in how to care for a newborn baby. Something very interesting is that 52.6% of these fathers to be believe that common sense is enough and that they would automatically know how to care for their newborn. However, 67.6% of the expecting dad group would use books as a tool to prepare them for the coming of their newborn and 29.7% said they would consider this, leaving only 2.7% who actually said no to using this sort of resource!

Other expecting Dad and first time Dad surveys have shown that 9 out of 10 fathers attend the birth of their child. Research has shown that when fathers read, play, engage and encourage their children, the better the child will do in the future.

A staggering 55.3% of these men said, the thing that they most wanted to avoid was being the same sort of dad that their dad was! Studies have shown this is most likely due to a change in the mindset of the expecting dad. In the past, Dads and an expecting dad weren’t encouraged as much to play as big a part in their baby’s childhood as the mother. The father’s main contribution to the child was a financial one, which of course is important, but more and more fathers and the first time expectant dad are beginning to realise that probably the most important aspect is spending time with your child and helping them to develop.
